Britain withdrew most of its troops from Afghanistan

Most of the British troops have been withdrawn from Afghanistan, signaling the final stage of London’s nearly 20-year military campaign, Sky News reported.

“The UK is cutting its presence of about 750 troops on the NATO mission in Afghanistan after US President Joe Biden decided to withdraw his troops by September 11, 2021”, – Sky News reported.

The publication notes that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the next meeting of the National Security Council intends to consider the form of the future presence of London in Afghanistan against the backdrop of the resurgent Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) and the threat of civil war.

Earlier it became known that Germany and Italy completed their military missions in Afghanistan, and the last Polish troops returned home. It is noted that the withdrawal of the British military was kept in the strictest confidence and, to this day, images of the flag-lowering ceremonies, which are used to mark the end of any military mission, have not been published, despite the fact that at least one such ceremony took place at the Kabul international airport.
