Biden’s national security aide discussed Russia and China with the German defence minister

Jake Sullivan and Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer also discussed the “close and enduring partnership” between the US and Germany

US Assistant to the President for National Security Jake Sullivan discussed Russia and China with German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Carrenbauer in Washington on Wednesday. This was stated in a released written statement by White House National Security Council spokesperson Emily Horn following the conversation.

“Sullivan expressed gratitude for Germany’s contribution to NATO’s Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan, and they discussed the continued provision of economic and humanitarian aid, security support to the Afghan people. They also discussed common foreign policy priorities, including China, Russia and the Sahel”, –  Horn reported.

She said Sullivan and Crump-Carrenbauer also discussed the “close and enduring partnership” between the US and the FRG on a range of issues, “including defence cooperation, both bilaterally and through NATO.”

“They welcomed the progress made at the recent NATO summit in strengthening transatlantic unity and beginning the important work of adapting the alliance to future challenges”, –  Horn added.
