Czech Attorney General Pavel Zeman announced his decision to resign a month and a half ago, citing a disagreement with the head of the Ministry of Justice, Maria Benešová
He had earlier disagreed with the country’s leadership, stating that from the legal point of view, the Vrbetica bombing case could not be regarded as a criminal act of terrorism, as there had been no damage to the constitutional order or defence capacity.
Moreover, Zeman did not rule out stopping the bombing case if it turned out that the accused could not be found or interrogated.
He cited pressure from the Minister of Justice, who also said there were several versions of the bombing investigation, as the reason for his resignation, but after speaking to the prime minister said there was one version – the involvement of foreign agents.
Zeman has headed the Czech Prosecutor General’s Office for more than 10 years.
