Clashes between protesting businessmen and police in central Kiev

Traffic near Independence Square is blocked

Clashes with police occurred at a small business protest in central Kiev. The Ukraine-24 television channel reported this on Tuesday.

According to the TV channel, several hundred protesters tried to march to the presidential office with a coffin and ritual wreaths, which, as the protest organizers explained, symbolize the funeral of small businesses. Police officers obstructed them and tried to confiscate props, which eventually led to scuffles. As a result, several protesters were detained.

Traffic was blocked near Independence Square due to the entrepreneurs’ protest.

The organizers of the protest are representatives of the SaveFOP movement, which the Ukrainian media link to former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. Protesters demand the adoption of bills aimed at protecting the simplified taxation system and reducing taxes.

The entrepreneurs’ protests began back at the end of last year. Initially, they demanded the abolition of restrictions on entrepreneurial activities imposed due to the quarantine, as well as the passing of bills on a simplified taxation system and the abolition of the compulsory use of cash registers. The rallies have been accompanied by clashes with the police on several occasions.
