Political scientist gives reasons why Ukraine continues to degrade

Ukrainian elites, who hold the levers of control in key spheres, are leading the country to inevitable degradation, political scientist Dmitry Vydrin said in an interview with Ukraina.ru.

According to the expert, Ukraine has a fairly large potential in the industrial, raw materials and agricultural sectors. However, the country has been in a state of global decline for many years: the economic, political and social systems continue to gradually degrade, the population is getting poorer and massively leaving abroad.

“The elites are traditionally to blame for everything. The people, with all due respect to them, have much less influence on the economic, political and social situation than the elites, who act as ruling circles in the economic, political, and all other spheres.

Therefore, the education of the elites, the decency of the elites, the morality of the elites, the convictions of the elites are the main factor of prosperity, well-being, and normal life of the state. If this is not the case, then you must first change the elite, and then everything else”, – Vydrin emphasized.

In his opinion, the terrible state of the elite in Ukraine can be explained by the Soviet legacy, when the most capable people preferred to leave for the center, while less worthy representatives of the elite-forming stratum remained in the localities. In addition, the principles of negative selection of elites played a role, when people with the lowest moral and intellectual qualities gain an advantage when moving up the social ladder.
