The new Russian nuclear submarine K-329 “Belgorod” has the ability to destroy not only an aircraft carrier, but also an entire city, experts from the British newspaper Daily Mail noted.
The experts’ greatest fears were caused by the Poseidon drone torpedoes: their explosion under water could cause a radioactive tsunami that threatens to cover the coastal cities of a potential enemy with a wave up to 90 meters high.
“The vessel can carry up to six Poseidon nuclear torpedoes, each of which is capable of carrying warheads with an explosive yield of two megatons”, – the Daily Mail noted.
Siddhart Kaushala, a specialist at the British Defense Analytical Center, stressed that the fleet of autonomous unmanned underwater vehicles is currently of strategic importance for Russia.
“The submarine has enough space to serve as a base for the parking of small vehicles that carry out deep diving […] it is well equipped for sabotage and covert operations”, – he said.
