Poland says strategy to stop Nord Stream 2 failed

Witold Modzelewski, a professor at the University of Warsaw, a member of the National Development Council under the President of Poland, stated that the attempts to stop the construction of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 failed, reports EurAsia Daily

According to the professor, the effort to oppose the Nord Stream 2 project did not meet the economic interests of Poland, but was just another attempt to please the United States. Modzelewski believes that Warsaw’s plans failed because American sanctions against Nord Stream 2 were useless and the White House admitted its defeat.

The expert notes that Washington “betrayed” Warsaw by ending restrictions on companies involved in the construction of the Russian pipeline. According to the professor, Poland, as in the case of supporting the coup d’état in Ukraine in 2014, found itself in the role of “fools left behind by meaningless cutthroats”.

Modzelewski urged Poland to take advantage of the situation and consider the possible benefits of cooperation with Russia: after the launch of Nord Stream 2, Warsaw could buy fuel from Moscow at a low price, in contrast to Berlin’s inflated price.
Earlier, News Front reported that Germany and the United States are discussing the issue of assistance to Kiev in the energy sector after the completion of the Russian gas pipeline “Nord Stream – 2”.
