Heart inflammation added to list of side effects of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expanded the supporting documentation for Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to include information on possible side effects in the form of myocarditis or pericarditis, Reuters reports

According to the agency, the FDA has included warnings about the occurrence of myocarditis and pericarditis following vaccination against coronavirus with these companies’ products. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that most patients with vaccine-induced heart inflammation recover in most cases.

Myocarditis is an inflammatory disease of the heart muscle of the myocardium; pericarditis is an inflammatory lesion of the serous membrane of the heart. About 1,200 cases of myocarditis and pericarditis have been reported in the United States.

According to WHO, as of 25 June, the United States has the highest number of reported cases of coronavirus infection in the world, with 33,257,768 cases. The United States also leads the world in fatalities with 597,727.
