The United States is ready to consider restrictions on its military systems in negotiations with the Russian Federation
There may be mutual concessions on this issue, said the US Deputy Secretary of State.
The United States is ready to consider the possibility of imposing restrictions on some of its systems during the dialogue on strategic stability with Russia. This was announced by the US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, speaking Friday at an online conference hosted by the American Council for Germany, a New York-based nongovernmental organization.
“We can say that if we engage in negotiations on strategic stability, then there may be some mutual concessions to ensure that we can provide greater security for our peoples, that there will be no incidents, misunderstandings, maybe even some restrictions have been imposed on our systems for the common good,”, – she said.
“On some issues, you can look at the situation from the Kremlin. How do we have concerns about some weapons that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin is creating, which destabilize the arms control sphere and which no one knows about, whether they work and how they work, and they have questions about some of our systems“, – said Nuland.
At the Russian-American summit in Geneva on June 16, the parties reached an agreement to resume negotiations on strategic stability in the near future. However, no specific dates for the contacts have yet been announced. On Monday, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the United States expects to begin dialogue with Russia in the coming weeks.
