Merkel urged against a fourth wave of COVID-19

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, referring to the spread of the Indian strain of the coronavirus, urged EU countries to do everything possible to prevent a fourth wave pandemic

“We have to do everything to avoid being in the fourth wave that will set us back. So simple things – social distance, wearing masks, testing – remain relatively small constraints compared to what will happen if we let the situation get out of hand and we have to impose serious measures again”, –  she told a news conference on Friday.

She added that the situation in the EU was now relatively stable, with the virus spreading on a small scale. “Everything needs to be done to keep it that way,” she added.
