Germany responds to US claim that Russian gas is the “dirtiest”

The head of Wintershall Mario Mehren considers Russian gas to be a quality source of energy for Europe

Commenting on U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm’s statement that Russian gas is “the dirtiest,” the head of German oil and gas company Wintershall Dea Mario Mehren said in an interview with RBC on Friday that Russian gas is a quality source of energy for Europe.

“He told the publication that Russian gas is not only ‘very high quality’ but also ‘a very reliable source of energy for Europe'”, –  the report said.

Earlier, the US energy secretary had claimed that natural gas obtained from Russia was allegedly the “dirtiest” in the world. She was asked to comment on the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline at a hearing of the US House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology. She noted that it is transporting “the dirtiest form of natural gas on Earth”.
