EU summit decides on six-month extension of economic sanctions against Russia

The European Union has traditionally cited the failure to implement the Minsk agreements as the reason for the extension

A source in a European country’s delegation to the European Council told TASS on Friday that European Union heads of state and government at a two-day summit in Brussels made a political decision to extend economic sanctions against Russia, which expire at the end of July.

“Yes, the discussion on Russia touched on the implementation of the Minsk agreements as usual. Everyone agreed that there is no significant progress. On the contrary, we have seen alarming developments on the border between Ukraine and Russia in recent months. So no one spoke out against extending the sanctions for another six months”, –  the agency’s interlocutor said.
