Serbian Interior Minister says country will never be a NATO member

The Republic will remain militarily neutral, Aleksandar Vulin stressed

Serbia’s Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin said on Thursday at a conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club at the Russian House in Belgrade that Serbia will never join the North Atlantic Alliance and will remain militarily neutral, TASS reported.

“Serbia will never be a member of NATO. The whole structure of the state would have to change for that”, –  Vulin said.

He said he was proud that Serbia and its president Aleksandar Vucic had chosen a policy of neutrality.

“We are ready to give almost everything for peace, and everything for freedom. Everything that is done against us is ultimately destined for Russia. NATO’s 1999 aggression against Serbia was the beginning of an attack on Russia, and Russia understood that. We here in Serbia think that Russia knows everything about us, about our problems, our sympathies, but it is not so. Today’s forum is an opportunity to talk about our views and needs, and to discuss them with our Russian colleagues”, –  the Minister said.

Vulin stressed that in the years of cooperation he has never experienced pressure from Russia: “Russia is a disproportionate ally of Serbia, but despite its size, I have never encountered pressure from Russia. We have never once been told: ‘Do this or that, otherwise you will feel Russia’s power’.
