Psaki: No change in timeline for US withdrawal from Afghanistan

There will be no change in the deadline for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. This was announced by White House press secretary Jen Psaki

She was asked if the timing of the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan is expected to change as US President Joe Biden will meet with his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani and the head of the High National Reconciliation Council, Abdullah Abdullah, in Washington on June 25.

“It is not expected that the timeline for withdrawal by September will change. The timeline is, of course, controlled by our defence ministry”, –  Psaki said.

She said Biden, in talks with Ghani on Friday, “will reiterate his commitment to work with the Afghan government to continue to provide humanitarian support, not just security.”
