Blinken and Merkel also stressed the importance of a coordinated transatlantic approach to addressing global challenges, including those related to China and Russia
According to European Pravda, citing a statement by State Department spokesman Ned Price, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, in a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, called for measures to reduce the risks posed to Ukraine by Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
“Secretary Blinken stressed the continued US opposition to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and called on Germany to take concrete steps to reduce the risks it poses to Ukraine and European energy security”, – the statement said.
Earlier, Blinken said in Berlin that the USA wants to ensure that Russia will not use energy as a pressure tool against Europe and Ukraine.
It is well known that US President Joe Biden’s administration decided to waive sanctions against Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of Nord Stream 2, and its managing director Matthias Warnig. The US President explained his decision not to apply sanctions by the fact that the project has in fact been completed and also by his unwillingness to damage relations with Germany.
