A study of Argentina’s largest province, Buenos Aires, has confirmed the safety of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine – no fatal cases have been registered and the response to immunisation was mild, the provincial government said
The study ran from 29 December 2020, when the vaccination campaign began, to 3 June 2021. During that time, 2.8 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine, 1.3 million doses of Sinopharm and 0.9 million doses of Covishield/AstraZeneca were administered. The number of severe reactions per million doses administered was 0.7, 0.8 and 3.2 respectively.
“No deaths related to the Sputnik V vaccine have been reported. According to a study by the Buenos Aires Province Ministry of Health, the Sputnik V vaccine has a profile with a low number of serious reactions and a good safety record”, – the report said.
According to the study, “the reactions allegedly caused by the vaccination were mostly mild.”
“Among the most frequent manifestations were fever (47%), headaches (45%), muscle and joint pain (39.5%), pain (46.5%) and swelling (7.4%) in the injection area”, – authorities point out.
