Tikhanovskaya called the “goal” that she wants to realize in Belarus

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, a well-known opposition figure in Belarus, is counting on a new presidential campaign in the republic in the fall, she gave such a forecast regarding the situation in the country in an interview with the Associated Press.

“I suppose that new elections will be held this fall. This is our goal”, – Tikhanovskaya admitted.

The ex-presidential candidate of Belarus believes that the crisis in the republic is only “deepening.”

She is sure that if the Minsk authorities really took care of the citizens, “they would start a dialogue with the Belarusians, release political prisoners, and settle this crisis in a civilized way”.

Protest actions in Belarus

Strikes and protest actions engulfed Belarus on August 9, 2020, immediately after the presidential elections, which were won by the incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko – according to the CEC, he gained 80.1% of the vote.

His rival, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, according to official data, took second place with 10.1%. Its headquarters did not recognize these figures, considering that the opposition candidate gained significantly more than 50%. With the beginning of winter, opposition rallies in Belarus died down.
