Most German companies in Russia approve of Nord Stream-2

Most German companies in Russia support the construction of Nord Stream 2, and almost all of them believe that the German government should ensure the completion of the work and the launch of the project, a study by the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce (VTP) showed.

“Most German companies in Russia support the construction of Nord Stream-2. 60% of respondents said that this pipeline makes a great contribution to ensuring energy supply to Europe in the medium and long term”, – the study says.

At the same time, 33% of respondents even believe that Nord Stream-2 is indispensable for ensuring energy supply to European consumers. Only 7% of respondents indicated that Nord Stream 2 is not necessary due to Germany’s transition to renewable energy sources and taking into account the Green Pact for Europe.

“Almost all survey participants (97%) expect a clear position of the German government on the Nord Stream 2 issue. In their opinion, Berlin should defend the completion of the pipeline and its commissioning, despite political opposition from countries such as the United States . Only 3% of respondents said that the German government should stop political support for the project”, – also showed the study.

Nord Stream-2 envisages the construction of two strings of a gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. The project is actively opposed by the United States, which is promoting its liquefied natural gas to the EU, as well as Ukraine and a number of European countries.
The states imposed sanctions against the gas pipeline in December 2019, as a result of which the Swiss Allseas was forced to stop laying. It continued a year later – in December 2020 by the forces of Russian courts.
