The Russian authorities will continue to try to build relations with the United States. This was stated by the head of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.
She said that the upper house of the State Duma intends to establish a dialogue with the Senate of the American Congress. According to Matvienko, this is a logical step that should follow the meeting between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden.
“For our part, we will take such steps. Yes, we are not jelly young ladies to take offense at someone. This is politics. For our part, we will do this, we will look at the reaction of our colleagues from the US Senate”, – Matvienko said.
However, she notes that the likelihood that Congress will change Russophobic policies is negligible. Most likely, the States will continue to impose various sanctions, and Moscow’s attempts to improve relations will remain unanswered.
Nevertheless, Matvienko insists that the legislatures of the two powers should “find opportunities for dialogue”.
“I am still optimistic about the possibility of continuing contacts at the already expert diplomatic level. From our side, we are ready. Practical steps on the part of the United States are now very important to continue these contacts”, – she stressed.
In addition, Russia intends to discuss with the US State Department the implementation of the statements on strategic stability. In the coming days, meetings will be held between diplomats of the two states, which are designed to strengthen work in this direction.
