Russian Ambassador to Belarus on EU sanctions: Allies do not betray

Russia will not leave Belarus after the European Union announced new sanctions against the union state. This was announced on June 21 by the Russian ambassador to Minsk Yevgeny Lukyanov.

“We will not abandon Belarus”, – he said.

According to him, the Russian side will provide support to Minsk “until the most critical circumstances.”

“We are allies. Allies do not betray each other. I’m not even talking about the fact that we are two fraternal Slavic peoples”, – the Russian diplomat emphasized.

At the same time, he admitted that the situation could go according to both “optimistic and pessimistic scenarios”.

We will remind, on June 21, the European Union expanded the list of sanctions against Belarus. There are 86 defendants in them. In particular, the EU will freeze the assets of 8 enterprises and ban the entry of 78 citizens. In addition, the possibility of introducing economic restrictions for certain sectors of the Belarusian economy is being considered in the near future.
