Parliamentary elections in Armenia were held in accordance with national legislation and international standards, said member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Viktor Smirnov, who headed the delegation of Russian senators to observe the elections.
On Monday, the Central Election Commission of Armenia drew up a protocol on the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections, according to which the “Civil Contract” party and. about. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan gained 53.92%. 21.4% of voters voted for the “Armenia” bloc of ex-president Robert Kocharian, the “I have the honor” bloc of the former president of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan was supported by 5.23%. And although he did not get the required 7% of the vote, according to the law, he will enter parliament, since the presence of at least three political forces is mandatory in the legislative body. The final results will be announced on the seventh day after the vote.
“The elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia were held in accordance with national legislation and international standards”, – the press service of the Federation Council of Smirnov was quoted as saying.
The senator noted that on the voting day he personally visited 17 polling stations, and in total, a group of observers from the IPA CIS visited 77 polling stations in Yerevan and in the regions of Armenia. The senators also met with the leadership of the Central Election Commission of Armenia, representatives of a number of political parties and electoral blocs.
“Election day demonstrated the professionalism of members of precinct election commissions and the Central Election Commission of Armenia. Everywhere we visited, there was an organized work, the electoral legislation of the republic was exactly followed”, – the parliamentarian said.
He added that the voter turnout in the polling stations visited by the senators was quite high. At the same time, the anti-epidemic rules in force in the country in connection with the coronavirus infection were observed.
“Those minor violations, which were recorded by international observers, were of a technical nature, and, of course, could not affect the results of the expression of will”, – concluded Smirnov.
