Pashinyan announced that his party will receive a constitutional majority

Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said on Monday that his Civil Contract party will receive a constitutional majority in parliament and form a government.

“Thus, in the new parliament, the Civil Contract will receive a constitutional majority and form a government”, – Pashinyan wrote on Facebook.

The electoral code of Armenia allows Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party, which won over 50% of the votes in early parliamentary elections, to independently form a government. To ensure a stable majority – 54% – his parties will be given additional mandates.

A majority of 2/3 is considered constitutional, or qualified, and is capable of making changes to some articles of the basic law.
The Civil Contract party, according to the Central Election Commission, wins the parliamentary elections with 53.92% following the count of votes from all polling stations, the Armenia bloc of ex-President Robert Kocharian gains 21.04%.

The third is the “I Have Honor” bloc of former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan with 5.23%, but this figure is not enough to get the bloc into parliament (it is necessary to overcome the 7% barrier). The Prosperous Armenia Party of businessman Gagik Tsarukyan gains 3.96% of the vote. For parties, the passing threshold is 5%.

Parliamentary elections in Armenia were held on June 20, 21 parties and four blocs took part in them.
