US authorities will continue imposing sanctions against Russian companies involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan said this on Sunday on CNN
“With regard to Nord Stream 2, we have imposed sanctions on several Russian companies. We only waived sanctions on two <…> a German national and a Swiss company. The bottom line is that when President [US President Joe] Biden took office, Nord Stream 2 was 90 percent complete <…> the question for us was whether we would go directly after our European allies and friends using our sanctions powers. Here President Biden said: “I’m not ready for that, what I’m going to do is continue to apply every 90 days restrictive measures against Russian entities involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2. He [Biden] has done that and will continue to do that”, – Sullivan said.
