A rocket has fallen near Ain al-Asad airbase in western Iraq in Anbar province, Al-Sumaria TV channel reported, citing its source in the country’s security authorities
According to the TV channel, it has not yet been possible to determine the type of missile that was fired at the airbase. It also noted that the missile failed to hit its target and landed near the military base, with no casualties.
The Ain al-Asad air base is used by the Iraqi and US armed forces. It is located 160 kilometres north of Baghdad. It is the only military base in the country where soldiers of the international anti-terrorist coalition led by the US remain, according to Yahya Rasul, spokesman of the Iraqi military commander-in-chief.
