Sohu: Russia has given NATO an unpleasant “surprise” on the eve of meeting with Biden

Analysts of the Chinese publication Sohu have told about an unpleasant “gift” for NATO from Russian aviation a few hours before the meeting of Russian and US presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, reports PolitRossiya

The Russia-US summit was held in Geneva on 16 July. The talks between the Russian and US leaders took place against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between the two countries and have been described by experts as one of the most important political events of the year. According to Sohu, shortly before Biden’s arrival in Geneva, “one very important event” occurred.

Hours before the Biden-Putin talks began, Russian strategic bombers were spotted over the Baltic Sea. Chinese experts say the manoeuvre came as a complete surprise to the North Atlantic alliance.

“In an instant, several European countries started panicking at once. Russian strategic bombers took off from their bases and flew over neutral waters, their flight lasted eight hours”, –  Sohu writes.

According to military experts, the manoeuvres were a response to prolonged provocations by NATO’s military, which has been sending its aircraft and ships to the Russian borders.

“The Russian aircraft manoeuvres were a signal to the US and its allies. Russia seized the opportunity presented and showed its opponents that it was not worth even trying to have a dialogue with it from a position of strength”, –  Sohu experts summarised.
