Merkel urged EU to maintain dialogue with Russia

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the European Union should maintain a dialogue with Russia, following the example of US President Joe Biden

According to the German chancellor, the EU needs to have a dialogue with Russia “in terms of security and stability in Europe. He said that only in this way can mutual positions be expressed.

“And I think that if US President Joe Biden meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin and maintains an open dialogue with him, it is only fair that we on the European side should do so too”, –  Merkel stressed at a press conference with French leader Emmanuel Macron.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden met on 16 June in Geneva at Villa La Grange. The presidents adopted a joint statement on strategic stability. According to Western media, the Russian leader “left Geneva with a victory.”
