Kiev admits Ukraine will not be able to join NATO in the near future

Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov said that the country’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance may take about ten years

“Let’s be frank – we won’t be able to do it in a year. We have to carry out a number of reforms in order to meet both NATO standards in terms of defence capability and standards of supplying the Ukrainian army, and many other things”, –  Razumkov said in an interview with Radio Liberty.

In his opinion, Ukraine “will definitely achieve this goal”, but the path to NATO membership will be extremely difficult and may take about a decade. In the opinion of experts, Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance is hindered by a number of reasons, in particular the negative attitude of the country’s residents towards joining NATO, territorial conflicts, and the appalling level of corruption.
