Japanese authorities commented on the summit of Putin and Biden

The Japanese government considers Russia and the United States to be “important players on the world stage” and “continues to closely monitor the actions” of the two states, Katsunobu Kato, Secretary General of the Japanese Cabinet of Ministers, said during a press conference on Thursday, in response to a request for comment on Vladimir Putin’s talks the previous day and Joe Biden.

“The United States and Russia are important players on the world stage. We continue to closely monitor the actions of the governments of these two countries”, – Kato said.

The first meeting of the Presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, took place on Wednesday in Geneva, negotiations lasted 4.5 hours, including a break. As a result, Putin said that he had agreed with Biden to begin consultations on strategic stability at the interdepartmental level. According to him, both countries are aware of their special responsibility for strategic stability in the world. In addition, the presidents adopted a joint statement stating that the Russian Federation and the United States reaffirm their adherence to the principle that there can be no winners in a nuclear war and should never be unleashed. The same principle was fixed by the leaders of the USSR and the United States at a meeting in Geneva in 1985.
