The Australian government has decided not to use the vaccine of the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca to immunize people under the age of 60 against the coronavirus.
“The Australian Government has received updated guidelines for the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. This drug is now recommended for the immunization of people aged 60 and over. The experts have also updated the recommendations for the Pfizer vaccine in the group of patients under 59 years of age, advising to use only this drug”, – Australian Minister of Health Greg Hunt said in an online briefing.
Hunt noted that Australia will receive the first shipments of the US Moderna vaccine in July. There are over 2 million people in the country between the ages of 50 and 59 who are due to begin the vaccination cycle.
According to the Austrian Ministry of Health, about 6.2 million people have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. There were also 29,000 reports of side effects after vaccination.
