Such a decision would be an important signal that “a certain extremely difficult page is turning and something new begins”, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
According to TASS, in an interview with Izvestia published on Tuesday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that one of the decisions of the summit of Russian and US presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden in Geneva on June 16 will be the return of the Russian and US ambassadors to Washington and Moscow embassies.
“I admit that one of the results will be the decision of the leaders that the ambassadors return and begin to implement the understanding or agreements that will be reached at the summit. This would be an important signal, undoubtedly, that a certain extremely difficult page is turning and something new begins”, – he said.
“On the one hand, to expect large-scale breakthroughs, really far-reaching, taking into account the state in which relations found themselves through the fault of the United States, probably would be somewhat naive”.
On the other hand, as the high-ranking diplomat continued, if you do not create a base for further movement, then these breakthroughs will never come, which is also probably impermissible.
“Our leadership proceeds precisely from this when it gives instructions, when we prepare materials and, in contact with the Americans, work out the moments necessary for, we hope, a successful summit. Such a platform, especially in the field of arms control, as a result of the summit, would become a very important and serious achievement and an insurance policy, perhaps, for the future”, – Ryabkov said.
