King Philip of the Belgians received US President Joe Biden, who is on a visit to the Belgian capital, at his palace on Tuesday, the royal family said on Twitter. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander de Croo.
“The monarch and the American president discussed the situation with the coronavirus, the climate and cooperation between the US and the EU”, – said in a statement.
The Belgian monarch previously hosted ex-US presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump. The Belgian media explain this interest of American leaders in the Belgian monarch with protocol issues, as well as the importance of Belgium as a state that hosts NATO headquarters and the main institutions of the European Union on its territory.
