NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has confirmed that there will be no announcement at the end of the summit in Brussels of a timeline for the accession of new countries, including Ukraine and Georgia, to the alliance, RIA Novosti reported
“I expect the leaders today to confirm the decisions that were taken earlier on the accession of new members, including the announcement that Georgia will become a member of NATO. But we have not presented any timeline, nor will we provide any dates today”, – the NATO secretary general stressed.
Stoltenberg noted that the North Atlantic Alliance will focus on “reforms, support for Georgia, modernization of defense institutions and security structures.
We shall remind you that representatives of Ukraine and Georgia were not invited to the NATO summit in Brussels. This caused strong discontent in Kiev and Tbilisi, which expect to receive the Membership Action Plan in the near future.
