Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said that the Kiev authorities expect to receive compensation after the launch of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline
In an interview with German newspaper Die Welt, Kuleba said that Ukraine plans to receive compensation from the US after the launch of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
“If we are offered to negotiate compensation, we will consider it. But we will not necessarily agree to what we will be offered. For Ukraine, the implementation of the project is not only an economic threat but also a security threat”, – Kuleba said.
According to the minister, the White House’s determination to compensate Ukraine for the launch of Nord Stream 2 has increased significantly recently. However, it is worth recalling that earlier US President Joe Biden decided not to impose sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 AG pipeline.
Furthermore, in an interview with a German publication, the Ukrainian foreign minister accused NATO of not fulfilling its promises regarding Ukraine’s accession to the military bloc.
“Ukraine, which has nothing to do with Nord Stream 2, demands that it be given a part of its shares as compensation. It did not build anything, did not finance anything, tried to disrupt the project, and now it wants the shares. A new confirmation of the parasitic nature of the ‘new’ Ukraine”, – Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov commented on Kuleba’s statement.
Nord Stream 2 pipeline implies construction of two lines of the pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic metres of gas per year from the coast of Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea.
