The US no longer views NATO as guarding allies for money, the alliance is important for common security
The US no longer treats NATO as guarding allies for money, but believes the alliance is important for common security, US President Joe Biden told a G7 summit press conference.
“I will soon be travelling to Brussels, where there will be a NATO meeting. Many of the people here will gather around the negotiating table there. We no longer see NATO as protecting (allies – ed.) for money. We believe NATO is important for our common security”, – the president said.
Biden recalled that when the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks occurred in the United States, NATO provided “immediate” support. He stressed that he considered Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which treats an attack on one NATO country as an attack on the alliance as a whole, a “sacred obligation”.
