Biden says US does not seek conflict with Russia

Further development of relations between the countries depends on Moscow’s steps, the American president said

US President Joe Biden agrees with Russian President Vladimir Putin that relations between Washington and Moscow have reached a low point. He said so at a press conference after the Group of Seven summit in the English resort town of Carbis Bay on Sunday.

“I think he’s right, this is the low point”, –  Biden replied when asked by a journalist to comment on Putin’s relevant statement. According to the US president’s version, the future state of relations will depend on whether Russia acts “in accordance with international norms.”

Biden said that following his upcoming meeting with Putin in Geneva, he intends to “make it very clear what the conditions are for improved relations.”

We are not seeking conflict. We are seeking to find a solution to those actions that we believe are not in line with international norms”, – the US leader said.

He said the US is ready to work with Russia on strategic stability, another area of joint effort could be combating climate change.

“We can probably do this in the area of some strategic doctrines. We are ready to work together here. Maybe in some other areas as well, like climate issues”, –  the U.S. president said.
