Kiev to channel part of US military aid to deepen NATO compatibility

The Ukrainian authorities will channel $ 150 million in US aid to defend its borders and deepen interoperability with NATO, the country’s defense ministry’s press service said on Saturday morning.


Defense Department spokesman John Kirby said Friday that new US military aid to Ukraine would amount to $150 million.

“According to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran, this assistance will be aimed at taking measures to ensure the territorial integrity of Ukraine, the defense of borders and deepening compatibility with NATO”, – the statement on the website of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.

According to Taran, among other things, Ukraine intends to replenish its arsenals with anti-artillery radars and anti-drones.

“This aid package is aimed at increasing the combat capabilities of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, managing units, elements of electronic warfare. We are talking about replenishing our arsenals with anti-artillery radars, anti-drones, secure communications, electronic warfare”, – the website of the Ministry of Defense quoted Taran as saying.

According to him, in the period from 2014 to 2021, Ukraine received defense assistance from the US government totaling about $2.5 billion.

Earlier, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Senate passed a bipartisan Security Partnership with Ukraine bill, which increases annual US military aid to Kiev to $ 300 million, including lethal weapons.
