Guy Parmelin: Switzerland looks forward to Russian and US leaders’ arrival in Geneva

Ahead of the Russia-US summit and a separate meeting with Vladimir Putin on its sidelines, Swiss President Guy Parmelin gave an exclusive interview to TASS in which he said that relations between Bern and Moscow are diverse and multifaceted and despite the coronavirus pandemic crisis, trade exchanges remain stable and have the potential to develop

– Switzerland is hosting a US-Russia summit. What are your expectations for this meeting?

– Switzerland welcomes the meeting between the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and the US president, Joe Biden, which will take place in Geneva on 16 June. Switzerland has a long tradition of good offices and is very much looking forward to the arrival of the two heads of state in Geneva. Switzerland is delighted to once again be the venue for a meeting at such a high level and to feel the trust of both sides.

Switzerland has maintained good relations with both countries for many years and has pursued an open and transparent policy of dialogue. Switzerland is convinced that a constructive dialogue between the two great powers is necessary and very useful for solving inter-State and global problems.
