The movement, banned in Russia, thus reacted to the country’s recent proposal to secure the Kabul airport with its armed forces after the withdrawal of NATO troops from Afghanistan.
According to TASS, the radical Afghan Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation) demanded that Turkey withdraw its troops along with other NATO member countries.
“As a NATO member, Turkey must withdraw its troops from Afghanistan based on the agreement we signed with the United States on February 29, 2020”, – Afghan TOLO News quoted Taliban spokesman Suheil Shahin on Friday.
“And so, Turkey is a great Muslim country, Afghanistan has historical ties with it. We hope to have a close and good relationship with her after a new Islamic government is established in our country in the future”.
The Taliban have responded to a recent offer from Turkey to secure Kabul airport with its armed forces following the withdrawal of NATO troops from Afghanistan. According to Reuters, Ankara made this offer to Washington at a meeting of NATO defense ministers in May this year, when the United States and its allies discussed a plan to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. The discussion on the Turkish proposal is scheduled to continue next week during the NATO summit.
