The Swiss authorities decided to close part of the country’s airspace for flights in connection with a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Joe Biden in Geneva on June 16.
“At a meeting on June 11, the Federal Council approved a temporary restriction on the use of airspace during a meeting between President Biden and Vladimir Putin from 15 to 17 June 2021 in Geneva”, – the Swiss government said.
It is also noted that the Swiss Air Force will perform the functions of the air police and conduct enhanced surveillance of the airspace. Also in connection with the Russia-US summit, the Swiss government will send about a thousand troops to support the Geneva authorities.
