Polish Foreign Minister learned from the media about US plans to abandon sanctions on Nord Stream-2

Earlier, when rumors circulated about confidential US-German negotiations on the pipeline, the minister said, Washington had assured that such negotiations were not being held.

In an interview with the newspaper Rzecz Pospolita, published on Friday, Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau said that the United States had not discussed with Poland the issue of waiving sanctions on the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. When asked how he learned about the US decision, the minister replied: “From the media.”

“The American allies did not find time to consult with the region in the world most vulnerable to the consequences of this decision,” TASS quoted the Polish minister as saying.

According to Rau, earlier, when there were rumors about confidential US-German negotiations on the pipeline, the American side assured that such negotiations were not underway.

“Now I’m reading agency reports that talks are underway in Washington this week between Chancellor Merkel’s close associates and President Biden’s advisers on the completion of Nord Stream 2”, – he said.
