Poland will be guided by the decision of the European Medicines Agency on the recognition of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, said Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki after meeting with his Slovak counterpart Eduard Heger on Thursday in Warsaw.
When asked if Poland intends to recognize the Russian vaccine, Morawiecki said: “If we talk about the types of vaccines, I can say that we use the rule of recognition of vaccines recognized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) – those vaccines that are recognized there and are used in Poland, will be recognized. “
Currently, vaccines from four manufacturers are used in Poland – Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson. Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older can register for the vaccination.
The Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine has already been approved in 67 countries with a total population of over 3.4 billion people. Sputnik V ranks second in the world in terms of the number of approvals received by government regulators. The effectiveness of the vaccine was 97.6% according to the analysis of data on 3.8 million vaccinated Russians, which is higher than the data previously published by the medical journal The Lancet (91.6%), the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and the Gamaleya Research Center reported earlier.
