Expert names areas where Russians cooperate with Americans

The International Space Station and the Arctic are the only places where Russia and the United States are now working together to achieve common goals.

This was announced to RIA Novosti by the head of the Arctic Economic Council, Mads Frederiksen.

“I always say: there are two places in the world where Russians collaborate with Americans. One is the International Space Station, where there is very close cooperation, the other is the Arctic”, – Frederiksen said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his American counterpart Anthony Blinken met ahead of the ministerial meeting of the Arctic Council in Reykjavik. Frederiksen praised the cooperation between the member states of the bloc of eight countries as strong.

“There is the Arctic Council, where you sit and really talk with Canadians, Americans, Norwegians, Danes, Finns, Swedes, Icelanders, as well as Russians, and everything is actually going well”, – he said.

Despite lingering political tensions between Russia and the West, companies in the Arctic region are successfully doing cross-border trade, Frederiksen added.
