As reported by TASS, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at the Primakov Readings forum, said on Wednesday that Moscow does not expect any breakthrough agreements to be reached at the summit of Russian and US presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden.
“We have no overestimated expectations, no illusions that any breakthroughs are coming. But there is an objective need for an exchange of views at the highest level about what threats Russia and the United States see as the two largest nuclear powers in the international arena”, – Lavrov said.
In addition, Lavrov expressed the hope that the American side, while preparing for the RF-US summit, will work gladly for the mistakes of the past.
“Those who are involved in the Russian Federation, I hope that they will appreciate the actions, interests and position of Russia, our red lines in the end, and will do the work on the mistakes of the past and refuse to conduct a dialogue solely from the position of claiming hegemony in world affairs”, – he pointed out.
The head of the diplomatic service noted that “the normalization of Russian-American relations is possible only if the principles of equality, mutual respect, and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs are observed.”
“This is a necessary condition not only for maintaining a normal, predictable and stable dialogue, which the Americans want according to their statement, but it is also important for removing the accumulated confrontation between our countries”, – Lavrov added.
