The head of the Lithuanian parliamentary committee of national security and defense, Laurynas Kasciunas, said that President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko had chosen Lithuania for the “attack by migrants,” writes “Sputnik Lithuania”
“The conclusion that Lithuania was chosen as a target is confirmed by the fact that the column on illegal migration in Latvia is zero, while there are far fewer migrants asking to go to Poland than to Lithuania”, – Kasciunas wrote on his Facebook page.
According to the MP, the flow of migrants is “unprecedented,” but Lithuania “controls the situation. He also spoke about his visit to the border with Belarus near the village of Devianishkes, where there were allegedly “most of the attempts” to enter the territory of Lithuania illegally.
As a reminder, at the end of May Lukashenko threatened Western countries to loosen control over drug trafficking and illegal migration in connection with the sanctions against Minsk, which were imposed by the West after the incident with the emergency landing of the Ryanair airline plane.
The statement was perceived by the Lithuanian authorities as a “threat” from Minsk and accused Lukashenko of waging a “hybrid war against Lithuania with the help of illegal migrants”.
