NATO-Russia relations have now reached a low point – Stoltenberg

North Atlantic Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has proposed holding a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council (NRC) ahead of the organisation’s summit in Brussels

“I would like to once again invite Russia to attend the NATO-Russia Council meeting as soon as possible. We have many topics for discussion that are in the common interests of NATO and Russia”, –  Stoltenberg told Die Welt.

Among the topics for possible talks, the NATO Secretary General noted “an exchange of views on military manoeuvres to prevent misunderstandings and possible escalation. Also, according to Stoltenberg, another issue for discussion should be “sufficient military transparency on each side to avoid unintended accidents in the air and at sea”.

“NATO-Russia relations have now reached a low point that we have not known since the end of the Cold War. Dialogue is the best way to reduce tensions”, –  the secretary-general stressed.
