The US president says the country is interested in a stable and predictable relationship with Russia in areas where the two countries can work together
An article by US Chief of Staff Joe Biden published in The Washington Post on Saturday says the United States is not seeking conflict with Russia, but is interested in stable and predictable relations with it in areas where the two countries can work together.
“In my phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, I was frank. The US is not looking for conflict with Russia”, – Biden stressed. – “We want a stable and predictable relationship where we can work with Russia on issues such as strategic stability and arms control. That is why I acted immediately to extend the New START Treaty (Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms) for five years in order to strengthen US security and peace.”
According to the White House chief, this is a defining moment for Western democracies.
“Can democratic alliances and institutions <…> prove their ability to meet modern threats and adversaries? I believe they can. This week in Europe we have a chance to prove it”, – the article says.
