German businessman called the possible stop of the “Nord Stream-2” – a punishment for the Europeans

Stopping the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline would not meet the interests of Europe, such a scenario would be a “punishment” for the Europeans themselves.

This was announced to RIA Novosti by the chairman of Mangold Consulting GmbH, ex-head of the Eastern Committee of the German economy Klaus Mangold at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The interlocutor of the agency welcomed the fact that, according to him, the United States is currently “abandoning a certain hostile attitude towards the pipeline.” According to him, this is evidenced by the latest steps of the administration of President Joe Biden.

Mangold expressed confidence that this fact will help reduce the temperature with regard to relations between Russia and the United States, as well as between the United States and Germany.

He also noted that if the pipeline was stopped, it would be against European interests.

“So why should we Europeans do anything against our interests when the Americans obviously accept what is happening?”

In his opinion, by stopping the construction of Nord Stream-2, European countries would only “punish themselves”.
