According to The National, the details and the exact date of the deal, under which the main air harbor of Afghanistan will come under Turkish control, have not yet been specified
According to eadaily, the Turkish government has agreed to take responsibility for managing Kabul’s international airport as part of a $ 130 million deal with NATO, an Afghan government official told the English-language newspaper The National (published in the United Arab Emirates). This comes after weeks of uncertainty about the safety of flights through Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul after US troops left the country by September 11, 2021, according to the Joe Biden administration’s plan.
The Afghan Civil Aviation Authority last month asked NATO to hand over air traffic control at Kabul airport, confirming earlier concerns by experts about the local government’s ability to ensure flight safety following the withdrawal of foreign troops.
A government official said in May, speaking on condition of anonymity, that Afghanistan is unable to independently manage airports due to a lack of such experience.
