The German Foreign Ministry said it did not know the reasons for the cancellation of flights from Russia to Germany and back

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Adebar said the government remains committed to international standards and agreements on air travel

The Foreign Ministry of Germany does not possess the information about the reasons for cancelling flights from Russia to Germany and back as well as information about the legal grounds for this decision. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Adebar said this at a briefing on Wednesday in response to a TASS request to clarify the situation.

“We have taken note of the press reports, but we do not yet have information on what exactly happened or on what legal basis and on which side [the relevant] steps were taken”, –  she said.

In turn, the German Federal Aviation Authority recommended TASS to contact the German Foreign Ministry specifically on the matter.

Adebar noted that the German government remains committed to international standards and agreements on air travel.

Earlier, Germany’s largest airline Lufthansa cancelled Wednesday’s scheduled flights to and from Moscow (LH1444/1445) and St Petersburg (LH1436/1437) due to a lack of approval from the competent authorities, the airline concern told TASS. It was not specified which authorities and which country they were referring to.

The Tourdom portal reported that the Aeroflot airline had canceled two flights to Germany–to Frankfurt and Hamburg–on June 1. In addition, it was reported that German aviation authorities had not granted S7 permission to operate two cargo-passenger flights on 1 June.
