The Japanese government plans to deploy four F-35A fighters, which were purchased from the United States, in the country for “protection from Russia and China,” Kyodo reports.
According to the agency, the deployment of American fighters “is designed to counter the invasion of Japanese airspace by Russia and China.” It is also noted that the Komatsu airbase is currently the only one on the coast of the Sea of Japan, which is equipped with fighters.
In the next ten years, the Japanese authorities intend to purchase 147 F-35 aircraft from the United States, including 105 F-35A aircraft with conventional takeoff and landing and 42 F-35B aircraft.
